There Is Interest In Cooking

18 March 2009

I shouldn't find it curious that there is more interest in this yet unborn cooking site than there have been about my web accessibility site. But that is the reality of it. Recently at Kiwi Foo Camp 2009, I was talking about my plans for this site. Foo camp is attended by geeks of all ilks. And it is surprising how fast the word spread about the cooking site!

I mentionned it to a couple people, and then for the rest of the weekend, people actually walked up to me to ask about the site and my interest in cooking. It was really rather cool to see that much interest, and to be able to talk "foodie" to so many geeks in such a short time. Spoke about things like vegan cooking, and the difficulty of finding some products at times, and even spoke about molecular cooking! Booyah!

In contrast, the previous year, discussing accessibility, only two or three people were interested.

So I have hope that this site will be of interest to people. There is, of course, much more "competition" in this market, cooking websites and cooking blog seem to be all over the place nowadays. Some are excellent, some have great content but are hard to navigate. I think this site will be good and easy to use, and provide a good set of information above and beyond simple recipes.

And now, I'm off to test a braised chicken and quince dish :)
